Ben primarily teaches two classes at UM, Ornithology (EEB433) and Evolution (EEB390), with help from Graduate Student Instructors who are often members of the Winger Lab. Ben also teaches a summer field ornithology class (EEB330) at the University of Michigan Biological Station.
Ornithology (EEB433) is at once an in-depth tour of avian biology and diversity and a lens through which to explore fundamental ecological and evolutionary principles. Our exploration of avian biology during lecture is intimately connected to our parallel focus in lab on learning global avian diversity (using the collections of the UMMZ) and avian form and function. Field trips focus on learning the birds of Michigan and giving students the tools to study and enjoy birds in the field.
Evolution (EEB390) is UM's introductory evolution class and a core requirement for the major.
